The Medieval and
Renaissance Students' Association (MaRSA) at CSULB is seeking proposals for
individual papers and group panels from graduate and exceptional undergraduate
students in all disciplines for its Fifth Annual Student Conference. Proposals
should be sent as presentation abstracts of 250 words or less. Presentations
should be approximately 15-20 minutes in length, allowing an additional 5-10
minutes for discussion and questions.
MaRSA welcomes proposals
from all disciplines and levels of study, but submissions should be limited to
topics ranging from the Medieval through Early Modern periods. Modern topics
relevant to this period, such as anachronism or medievalism, as well as
proposals pertaining to regions outside of Europe, are also welcome.
Although there is no theme
associated with this year’s conference, the following list of topics have been
presented on in the past:
· The Monstrous and/or the
Heroic
· European Literary Culture
· English Philology
· Issues of Anglo-Saxon
Christianity in Literature
· Distinguishing Genders in
Medieval Texts
· Colonizing the Early
Modern Era
· Cultural Collisions of
Space and Place
· Representations of
Pre-Modern Women
· Christian Cycles in Early
Modern Literature
· Community in Anglo-Saxon
Literature
· Honor in Medieval and
Renaissance Europe
· Iconoclasm in Eastern
Christianity and the Schism
Proposals must include:
-The presenter of panel organizer's name and academic status [undergraduate (year)/graduate (MA; year)/graduate (PhD; year), ABD].
-A presentation title
-A 250-word abstract
